The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) is a professional body for the insurance profession. It is a globally recognized qualification designed to provide a solid foundation in the principles and practices of insurance. CII offers a range of globally recognised qualification and certification from entry level to advanced professional designations, including:

Programme Structure
Certificate in Insurance
This is an introductory level qualification designed for individuals who are new to the insurance industry or those in support or administrative roles who wish to build a strong foundation in insurance principles and practices. To be awarded the Certificate in insurance, candidates must complete three units (modules) to accumulate at least 40 credits.
The three modules are compulsory namely: Award in General Insurance (W01), Insurance Claims Handling (WCE), and Insurance Underwriting (WUE). These modules equip learners with essential skills and understanding required for various roles within the insurance industry.
Entry Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and possess a minimum of five (5) O’level credits at grade twelve (12), including Mathematics and English.
Diploma in Insurance
The Diploma in insurance is an intermediate level qualification aimed at insurance professionals who have foundational knowledge and are looking to deepen their technical expertise, gain recognition and progress in their careers. This intermediate level qualification provides a comprehensive understanding of insurance principles, products, and practices, equipping students with the knowledge and technical expertise required to operate effectively within a dynamic and regulated financial services environment.
Whether a student is already working in the industry or looking to build a rewarding career in insurance, this level offers a solid foundation for professional development. It also serves as a pathway to the Advanced Diploma and Chartered Status
The diploma is ideal for a firm understanding of underwriting, claims, broking and client relationship principles. It is also good for those in support or compliance roles who need a broad understanding of the sector.
By earning a Diploma in Insurance, students not only demonstrate their commitment to professional excellence but also enhance their career prospects locally and internationally.
There are two (2) compulsory and two (2) elective modules at this level. The compulsory modules are Insurance Law (M05) and Insurance Business and Finance (M92). The electives are Underwriting Practice (M80) and Claims Practice (M85).
Entry Requirements: Completion of the CII Certificate Level or any recognized qualification in Underwriting, Claims Handling or Brokerage.
Advanced Diploma in Insurance
The Advanced Diploma in Insurance is a prestigious and globally respected qualification. It is designed for insurance professionals who wish to deepen their technical knowledge, enhance their strategic thinking, and demonstrate leadership potential in the insurance and risk management industry.
This qualification is widely recognized by employers and industry regulators and is a key step toward achieving Chartered Insurer status – the industry’s gold standard for professionalism and competence.
The Advanced Diploma is suitable for individuals working in senior or specialist roles across underwriting, claims, broking, risk management, compliance, and loss adjusting. It provides advanced expertise in insurance disciplines while developing a broader understanding of the sector’s legal, financial, and operational frameworks. There are five (5) modules at this level.
Entry Requirements:
To enrol in the Advanced Diploma in Insurance, the candidate must hold a CII Diploma in Insurance, have a good understanding of core insurance principles or possess professional experience in the insurance sector.
Membership and Examination Fees
Students will be required to pay a subscribed annual membership fee and the examination fees for each level. Enrolment in each module will provide the students with the study book (E-version, which is also printable).
