General Questions

IT IS A PUBLIC INSTITUTION but SELF-SUSTAINING! The Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS) is a statutory body established under Act No.1 of 1989 (Cap 391) with the mandate to train accountants, promote research and advancement of learning in accountancy, finance and related studies, provide advisory and consultancy services. When ZCAS was established in 1989, it operated as a tuition centre for professional accountancy programmes offered by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA - UK) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA - UK). The Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZiCA) qualification was later added to the portfolio. In subsequent years, ZCAS expanded its portfolio of professional programmes and later introduced academic programmes in conjunction with local and foreign universities such as the University of Zambia (UNZA) and University of Greenwich (UoG). However, ZCAS could not award degrees in its own name. In 2016, ZCAS took a major step towards becoming a full-fledged higher education training provider when it successfully incorporated ZCAS University as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in conformity with provisions of the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013. To facilitate registration of ZCAS University with the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA), the ZCAS University Board had to be constituted. The registration of ZCAS University has given ZCAS autonomy to develop and offer degree programmes and give wards in its own name without having to depend on partner institutions. The establishment of ZCAS University has also given ZCAS leverage to respond positively to current demands of the labour market. ZCAS University is currently offering more than 40 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Accounting, Law, Economics, Computer Science, Business administration, Project Management and many more.
